Double Delight as Colts and Reserves win flags!
The Willetton Football Club has captured the WAAFL's C1 Reserves and Ian Dargie Colts flags in the Grand Finals at ATOM Stadium today, winning multiple premierships for just the second time in the club's 39 year history.

The Your Local Finance Reserves then locked away premiership number 18, the club's first Reserves flag in 20 years, with a 16 point win over Ocean Ridge, who had come all the way from 5th spot on the ladder to make the decider. Half back Andrew Burvill was named best on ground by the umpires, while his brother Matt, fellow midfielder Adam Walsh, defenders Keilan Marhshall and Damian Chandler and key forward Jeremy Bruse were the other outstanding players on the ground.

Annual General Meeting Wrap-up
The Willetton Football Club held its Annual General Meeting at the club on Thursday night, with two great servants of the club receiving Life Membership.
Rod Philp was unanimously elected as a life member after completing 10 years of exceptional service to the club. Rod began his involvement in 2005 as our Colts Team Manager, joining the committee in 2006. Rod was elevated to Vice President in 2007, a position he would hold for 7 years, before stepping back to the general committee. Rod was the recipient of our Jim Grace Best Clubman award in 2013 and has been our Bar Manager for the past 3 seasons.
Wade Rigoll also received unanimous support for his life membership after representing the club in 150 senior games. Wade is a 3-time WAAFL best and Fairest (2 in G Grade and 1 in E Grade) and a former League and Thirds best & fairest for the club. Wade celebrated his 150th in the Thirds round 17 win against North Beach.
The club also elected a new committee for the 2016 season:
President - Damian Chandler
Vice President - Ryan Harder
Secretary - Jaidon Tilbrook
Treasurer - Mark Windsor
General Committee - Andrew Burvill, Brendan Gotti, Josh Harder, Kyle Martin, David Philp and Mitch Steacy
Many thanks to those new members of the committee for volunteering their services, and thanks to those committee members stepping down this year, particularly Scott Tognolini and Michael Martella who step aside as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
The final announcement of the meeting was that Kyle Martin will return as Senior Coach for 2016. The club is headed in the right direction under Kyle's stewardship and we look forward to another year of improvement from the playing group in 2016.

Past Players Day Wrap
It was another fantastic weekend at Burrendah Park with three solid wins on the field, a huge turnout of past players, and thousands raised in support of a cause close to our hearts.
First up, the Colts put in a dominant performance over Gosnells to win by 103 points, with Ollie Smith booting 5 goals, and Jaidon Tilbrook and Jack Kennedy kicking four each. Congratulations also to Colts captain Leighton Douglas who represented the WCE State Amateur Colts this weekend in their match against the CBH Group Country Colts. Unfortunately the Ammos went down by 5 goals.
Next, the Reserves continued the pummeling of the Hawks to run away with a 93 point win - Jeremy Bruse kicked 5 goals and AJ 'Duck' Smith three.
Meanwhile on the junior oval, the Thirds had a tough day out against second placed Yanchep, going down by 87 points. Clint Gandy, Scott Tognolini and captain/coach Raymond Reveley were the goal kickers for the Blues.
The League boys finished off the day with a massive 139 point demolition of Gosnells, in what was a trying day for the hapless Hawks. Kim Barrett presented the inaugural Uittenbroek Barrett Cup (named for Kim Barrett and Bob Uittenbroek in recognition of their significant service to the Willetton and Gosnells football clubs respectively, and the East Fremantle Football Club collectively) to Blues vice captain Daniel Hug, and the team song was sung with gusto on the Hill with the past players, in what has become a memorable tradition over the past couple of years. Thanks must go to Ryan Harder for facilitating the creation of the Cup and for conducting the presentation.
Celebrations then moved into the old Sports Club, which for many was the first time they have seen the refurbished clubrooms. It was shoulder-to-shoulder for most of the night, with an atmosphere reminiscent of the old Sunday League glory days. We even had the 1995 Reserves Grand Final playing on the small screen (thanks to Trent Keen) with Keeny, Wedgie and others reliving every kick, goal and punch from 20 years ago! It was a great night to catch up with old teammates and coaches, especially for those celebrating premiership anniversaries. Thanks to Kim Barrett, Paul Kujawski, Dean Lewis, Brett Manley and everyone else who helped promote the event over the past months.
The day was also used to raise awareness and funds for the battle that Reserves player Adam Walsh and wife Brooke are fighting against brain cancer. Brooke recently underwent surgery to remove part of a large brain tumour and is recovering well in hospital. All money raised from the Meat Raffle (kindly donated by The Willetton Butcher) was added to the #walshywolfpack fund, and a number of other prizes were raffled and auctioned off throughout the night. A massive thank you to all who donated prizes including BGC, Michael (Lake Brick Cartage) and Jamie (JHL Brick Cartage) Lake, Powerplay, Chris Pobjoy, AJ Smith, David Myors, Kym Chandler, Scott Tognolini, and to everyone who helped sell tickets. In total, almost $3000 was raised for Adam and Brooke, and on top of the $3500 that was raised two weeks ago for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, it is a testament to the Willetton Football Club community's willingness to provide support and compassion towards our football family.
A big thank you to everyone who helped out on the day - in the canteen (Coral, Yvonne, Kym, Lisa), behind the bar at the Beer Tent and back at the clubrooms (Sarah, Tarryn, Jaimee, Billy, Burvs, Gotti's) and all the committee members who chipped in along the way. Plans are already underway for next year's event, which will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Willetton Football Club, along with 35th anniversary of the 1981 Colts premiership (the first for the club), 15th anniversary of the 2001 Colts and 10th anniversary of the 2006 Colts. We hope all the past players and members stay in touch with the club, especially as our current teams head towards this year's finals. You can keep up to date with club events through our website and facebook page. We are up at the club every Thursday and Saturday night during the season and you are always welcome. We are looking forward to continuing the success and traditions of the Willetton Football Club.
ANZAC Day Football
The Willetton Football Club is proud to host ANZAC Day football this Saturday, when your Blues take on Carlisle and Ocean Ridge at Burrendah Park.
Following consultation with the Riverton RSL Sub-Branch, game times for our Colts, Reserves and League games have been moved back by 30 minutes, meaning that the Colts will start at 11:10am, the Reserves at 1:05pm and the League at 3:00pm. The E1 side will take on Ocean Ridge on the south oval at the usual time of 2:30pm.
Prior to the start of the League game, an ANZAC Observance ceremony will be held, with The Ode to be recited by former Blues player, retired RAAF Sgt Brett Manley. The club will also award an ANZAC Day Medal to the best on ground in the League game.
Please join us at Burrendah Park this Saturday as we honour the ANZACs and remember all those men and women who gave their lives in the service of their country.
Thursday Night Update - 26th March
Following team announcements for the club's final scratch matches against Stirling this Saturday, club President Damian Chandler made the following announcements:
THURSDAY NIGHTS AT THE CLUB
The club will be open each and every Thursday night, with team announcements being made at 8:00pm. Dinner will be available following training, with a greater variety of meals available given the renewed access to the kitchen and the purchase of a deep fryer.
All players who are in line for selection are expected to attend, or advise their coach if they are unable to attend. Players are expected to shower after training, and both change rooms will be opened for this purpose. Football boots are not permitted in the clubrooms at any time.
POST MATCH PRESENTATIONS
The club will be open every Saturday night during the season following all matches, home and away. Presentations will commence at 6:00pm following home games, and at 6:30pm following away games.
Again, all players are expected to attend, or advise their coach if they are unable to attend. Meals will be available for purchase at the bar. Players who do not attend presentations without advising their coach will not be eligible to receive match day awards.
PRE & POST MATCH DRESS
The club's coaches have advised that all Colts, Reserves and League players will be required to wear the club polo shirt, black dress pants and black dress shoes to and from all games, commencing in Round 1. Thirds players are expected to wear the club polo shirt.
Polos with the club's old "Blues" logo are not acceptable, as these shirts feature businesses that no longer sponsor the club. A new batch of polo shirts has just been ordered, and should arrive prior to Round 1.
Players who do not adhere to this policy will be disciplined by their respective coaches. Players who are rostered as waterboys are permitted to arrive in clothing fit for that purpose, but are expected to change in to their walk out gear after completing their duty.
The waterboy roster has been re-worked this year, with League players to run water for the Colts and the start of the Reserves, Colts players will then run water for the remainder of the Reserves and the start of the League, and Reserves players will take over for the remainder of the League game. Colts and Reserves players are asked to change quickly following their games to relieve the waterboys on duty.
3 waterboys will be rostered for each game, and the players on waterboy duty will be named on Thursday nights at team announcements, and posted on the club's website and Facebook page on Friday morning. Once the roster is announced, the players rostered will be responsible for finding a replacement should they not be able to complete their duty.
Players who fail to complete their duty will be subject to discipline from their coaches.
While the payment of fees to date has been better than this time last year, we are still not where we would like to be. All players will be given until Round 4 to have paid in full, or set up a payment plan with the club.
Following Round 4, any players who remain unfinancial with the club will be ineligible for selection. Players on payment plans will remain eligible for selection while they adhere to the terms of the plan.
Off Season Update
Your hard working committee has been working tirelessly during the off season to make the 2015 season one to remember. Some of the highlights include:
Connecting the club's history
The club's current committee recognises that there has been a disconnect between the club's older members (those who played in the Sunday League days) and its more recent members (those who have joined since the club was re-formed in 1999 in the WAAFL). This is something that needs to change for the good of the club, and the club has taken steps to make this change happen.
First, the club's trading name has officially been changed back to the Willetton Football Club. The club also officially lists its establishment date as 1976, not 1999 as recognised in the past. We have also taken steps to recognise all of the club's history, from its days as a part of the Riverton Football Club from 1973 to 1975, through its days as a division of the Willetton Sports Club from 1976 to 2011 and as an incorporated body in its own right since 2012. All of this information can be found here.
We plan on taking further steps toward this goal at our next Annual General Meeting, where all life members of the various incarnations of our club will be recognised fully under our constitution.
Moving back home
After a very long 3 years without proper social facilities, we are thrilled to be back in the club rooms of the newly named Willetton Sports and Community Centre, formerly known as the Willetton Sports Club. The City of Canning and the State Government have spent $2 million on upgrading the centre, as well as building a brand new home for the Willetton Bowling Club.
We have our old stomping ground, the Sports Bar, all to ourselves and we have been busy decorating our home with all our memorabilia. Many thanks to all those who have donated their time and resources to this, including Jason Walker, who has sourced all the furniture, and AJ Smith, better known around the club as "Duck", who has done all the electrical work to get the big screen up and running.
Unfortunately, one thing that was lost in the past was our Sunday League premiership flags. However, following a generous donation by Pual Kujawski and his team at Fremantle Trailers, we have been able to have these reproduced to hang proudly with our WAAFL premiership flags.
A new season, a new look
With a new year and a nod to our history, the old "Blues" logo has been replaced by the club's more traditional monogram (with an 'F' for football replacing the 'S' for sports) and the club has changed its playing strip back to the much loved (and much feared) navy blue guernsey, with the club logo proudly emblazoned across the chest.
The current day players loved wearing the old Sunday League jumpers on Past Players Day, and we want that same pride in the jumper to be felt by the playing group all season long.
A big thanks to Edinger Real Estate, BGC, CY O'Connor Village Pub and Essential Cabinetry for their financial assistance in making our new guernseys a reality.
On the park
The coaches and playing group have also been busy preparing for the 2015 season, with brand new League coach Kyle Martin taking the reins in a playing coach capacity. Kyle is the reigning fairest & best in the Mortlock Football League (where he played for Goomalling) and takes over as Senior Coach from club stalwart Justin Galvin, who shifts into the brand new role of Director of Football. Kyle is very focused on getting the club back to where it once was on the field, and has appointed three very experienced assistants in Gary Martin, Chris Pobjoy and David Myors to help him in this purpose.
In addition to Kyle's appointment, three life members (Jason Walker - Reserves, Paul Kujawski - Colts and Raymond Reveley - Thirds) have taken charge of our three lower grade teams.
The intra club matches are all but over, with official scratch matches set to begin on March 21st ahead of Round 1 on April 11th.
Sponsors on the up
The club's sponsorship committee has been hard at work in the summer months to improve our sponsorship portfolio. Edinger Real Estate has come on board as our brand new League team sponsor, with BGC shifting their focus to the club's Colts side. Your Local Finance (Reserves) and CY O'Connor Village Pub (Thirds) have continued their outstanding support of the club.
We also welcome Easy Payroll, Insight Physiotherapy, Fremantle Trailers and Zambrero Willetton, who join Kiss My Grass Lawnmowing & Garden Services, Speno Rail Maintenance, Natural Choice Bullcreek, The Willetton Butcher, Tj&K Auto Repairs and TAB Riverton as support sponsors.
We are always on the lookout for new sponsors, so if you (or anybody you know) is interested in supporting the club, please contact any member of our committee.
The club's social committee has also been working tirelessly to bring the membership of the club some wonderful social functions in 2015. The first of these will be the club's Jumper Presentation Night on Thursday 9th April (the Thursday prior to Round 1) from 6:00pm at the club.
The club is also honoured to be hosting a match on ANZAC Day, with the assistance of the Riverton Sub-Branch of the RSL. The always popular Past Players Day will be on 23rd May, when we take on former SFL rivals Gosnells, while Ladies Day and Sportsman's Night are in the works and will be as popular as ever. Make sure you keep an eye on our Social Calendar, as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages for all the details.
As you can see, it has been a hectic 6 months for the club, and it's only just beginning. We hope that all of you will be on board for an exciting season ahead.
Vale Tracy Bingham
The Willetton Football Club, its members and supporters are deeply saddened by the passing of club supporter Tracy Bingham.
Tracy was a much loved member of the "Willetton Family"and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Our thoughts are with Tracy's husband Steve and sons Matt and Rhys at this difficult time.
For those who wish to pay their respects, a funeral service will be held in the West Chapel at Fremantle Cemetery on Tuesday 10th February, commencing at 2pm.
Change of Training Location - Wednesday 4th February
3rd February 2015
Willetton Football Club senior coach Kyle Martin has advised that the training session on Wednesday 4th February will be held at Leighton Beach.
Players are to meet in the car park of the Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club, on Leighton Beach Boulevard in North Fremantle, at 5:45pm. Players will require runners and bathers.
2015 Coaching Appointments
The Willetton Football Club has great pleasure in announcing the following coaching appointments for the 2015 WAAFL season.
SENIOR COACH - Kyle Martin
Kyle Martin brings a wealth of experience to the senior coaching position with the Blues, having played at almost every level of the game in WA. Kyle played 15 WAFL games with East Perth between 2005 and 2006, before moving to Queensland to play another 20 senior games with QAFL side Labrador in 2007. He returned to Perth to play country football, winning a premiership with Waroona in the Peel FL in 2008.
Kyle then began his involvement in amateur football, joining Scarborough in 2009, where he helped the Eagles to a C1 premiership in 2011 in his second year as a playing assistant coach, while winning their Best & Fairest in 2010. He left Scarborough at the end of the 2013 season to return to country footy, joining Goomalling in the Mortlock FL for the 2014 season. His one year with Goomalling was a highly successful one, winning the Boekeman Medal as the MFL's Fairest & Best, as well as taking out his club's B&F. Kyle is married to Olivia with one child (and another on the way) and works as a carpenter for Dale Alcock Homes.
Kyle takes the reins from Justin Galvin, who steps down as Senior Coach having led the club for 8 seasons in 3 stints over a 12 year stretch, guiding the club to the 2007 C Grade flag.
RESERVES COACH - Jason Walker
"Walks" is a long standing and highly respected figure within the club, having played 232 games across all 4 grades for the Blues since 1999, having been made a life member in 2008. Jason was a member of the club's 2000 League premiership squad, and has led the club's E Grade side admirably over the last 3 years, taking the Thirds to a Preliminary Final in 2014. Jason has also been a long standing member of the club's committee, having served in a variety of roles over several seasons.
Jason takes over the Reserves job from Kane Lombardo, who is unable to commit to coaching in 2015 due to work commitments.
COLTS COACH - Paul Kujawski
Club legend Paul Kujawski has returned home in 2015, taking on the important role of leading the club's future stars. Paul began his career with the Blues as a Colts player in 1984, and was the captain of the club's 1985 Colts premiership team, the same season that he won the Colts Fairest & Best awards for both the club and the Sunday Football League. He made his league debut in 1986, going on to play more than 150 League games before retiring as a player at the end of the 1997 season.
Paul was named League captain in 1993, a position he held for 4 of the next 5 seasons, winning the club's League Fairest & Best in 1995 and being awarded life membership in 1996.
Following the end of his playing days, Paul soon turned to coaching, taking charge of the Blues upon their admission to the WAAFL in 1999, leading the club to its first 2 League flags in his only 2 years in charge of the club he loves. Paul then spent the next 14 years coaching at various levels, including stints coaching South Fremantle's "Warriors" development squads and spending the last 2 years as an Colts Assistant Coach at A Grade powerhouse Fremantle CBC.
Paul takes over as Colts coach from Jim Walters, who is unable to coach in 2015 due to travel commitments.
THIRDS COACH - TBC
