Your clubs has been hard at work to get the 2020 season underway. Check out this month’s headlines below:
1. 2020 Social Memberships
Your club is in the process of developing a fantastic social membership program with awesome bonuses for families, friends and supporters of the club. Watch this space as we will be sharing all the details and hosting a launch event at the club closer to the season commencing. Rest assured it will definitely be worth your while to become a Willetton Football Club Social Member.
2. Pre-season Training Commenced
Pre-season training for the 2020 season kicked off on Monday the 13th of January 2020 at our home ground. Thanks to our sponsors at GR8 Property we got to enjoy a BBQ and drinks after training.
Training is running on Monday’s and Wednesday’s at 6:00pm for the Men’s and Women’s teams and Wednesday’s at 5:30pm for our integrated team. If you haven’t made an appearance yet it is time to start getting down to training.
3. January Team Meeting
On Wednesday 29 January 2020 we had a shorter training session. After training we all went up to the club rooms where the Senior Coach Troy Douglas took us through his vision for the club for the 2020 season.
Troy’s coaching philosophy comes from a team first mindset and he values player involvement. Troy wants everyone to understand that the club is bigger than the individual and everyone from coaches, players and support staff all need to be willing to play their part for the club. Troy believes strong communication between the playing group, coaches and club will be paramount to our success.
Troy wants to develop an all-inclusive culture that supports involvement and participation by all and makes everyone feel welcome including family, friends and supporters. He wants us to encourage everyone to maintain their commitment to training and keep up the enthusiasm we’ve started pre-season with.
Troy values respect, he wants players to inspire, develop and accept each other and most of all he wants players to work hard and strive to achieve greatness. He has outlawed the word can’t, there is no such thing as can’t and expect to be fined by your team if you ever use it!
It was a great turn out at the club and thanks to our sponsors at GR8 Property we got to enjoy pizza and drinks during the address. It was great for some of the players to stand up and talk about themselves and we look forward to getting to know every single one of you.
4. Men’s Team Clothing

The 2020 Polo shirt is now available for pre-orders. We’ve had the same design for about 5 years now so this year we’ve got a whole new design! Place your order now to have your polo for round 1. We have a design for plain black casual shorts with the Willetton logo. We need to sell at least 10 to place the order so if you want some awesome Willetton branded shorts that you can wear everywhere pre-order a pair at the team store here.
5. Women’s Team Clothing
Women’s singlets are now available for pre-orders! We need 10 girls to jump on board so place your order now so we can order these ASAP. Girls can also pre-order the men’s training pack. 6. Seeking Players Men, Women, Colts, Integrated
7. Registrations and Transfers
Registrations are coming along nicely and we have more than we’ve have ever had at this stage of the year! Although there are still plenty of player’s (and even some committee members) that have been at training and still haven’t registered yet. All players have to register online each year through sportstg to be eligible to play. If you were registered last year you still have to re-register this year at this link.
If you require a transfer or know anyone that requires a transfer make sure they see the Vice President Lachy Perhavec at training and complete a written registration form or email
firstname.lastname@example.org Players requiring a transfer will be processed through sportstg and once approved at all levels they will receive an email to register with the club.
With only 9 weeks until the season starts, lock in your membership fee discount by getting your fees paid up before round 1. Senior men’s players will receive a $50 discount by paying before round 1 and colt’s will receive a $25 discount by paying before round 1.
You can pay your fees through the Team Store on the club website here or by eftpos to the Vice President Lachy Perhavec at training sessions. You can pay in instalments starting now to get your fees paid before round 1 and lock in that discount!
Fee’s for senior men’s players are $300 or $250 if paid before round 1.
Fee’s for colts are $150 or $125 if paid before round 1.
9. Integrated Fees
Unfortunately, due to the impending sale of the TAB they have stopped their community sports grants. This means that integrated players will have to make a small contribution for the club to support the team. To ease the burden on integrated players they will have the same fee schedule as the colts being $150 or $125 if paid before round 1. There will also be a $10 per game fee on game day to cover the cost of umpires and trainers each week.
10. Integrated Coach Appointed
We are excited to announce the appointment of our new Integrated All Abilities Team Coach Mogan Jenyns. Mogan joins Willetton with an impressive footy background having played football herself at the women’s WAFL level where she was twice best & fairest for the Peel Thunderbirds before moving over to the Perth Angels.
Mogan’s coaching experience is extensive, commencing with Little Athletics from 2003 to 2008, moving to Womens Soccer in 2010 then progressing to the Southern Sharks youth team between 2011 and 2015. From 2016 to 2018 she coached the Gosnells Hawks Junior girls and then moved to the Gosnells senior Womens team for the past two years.
On top of her extensive experience with football and coaching Mogan works with people of all abilities and has a pretty broad knowledge of the unique characteristics that need to be adopted and transferred into a team sport application.
Both Mogan and the Willetton Football Club recognise and acknowledge the mighty effort from Keilan Marshall as the inaugural coach and building this team for the last 3 years. The club also acknowledges the respect that Keilan is held in with the group and their support network and that many are sad to see Keilan leave the position.
The club is more that confident that Mogan will bring a positive attitude and build on the great work that Keilan has started. It has taken us a while to find the right individual for this unique position, in Mogan so we look forward to the entire Willetton Football Club getting behind her from Wednesday. Mogan commenced her role on the 22nd of January. The club wishes Mogan and the integrated team all the best for the season.
11. Volunteers Needed Bunnings BBQ’s - Saturday and Sunday 15 & 16 February 2020
To help raise funds for your club we have two Bunnings BBQ’s booked in for the 15th and 16th of February 2020 at the Willetton Bunnings Store. We need as many volunteers as possible to help share the load. It’s just a few hours work if we get lots of volunteers and it is likely to raise $1000 for the club to put towards football equipment! This will likely be our last two BBQ’s for the year so if you didn’t help at the last one get behind this one.
We need four volunteers for each time slot on each day being:
8:00am to 11:00am 4x volunteers
11:00am to 2:00pm 4x volunteers
2:00pm to 4:00pm 4x volunteers
8:00am to 11:00am 4x volunteers
11:00am to 2:00pm 4x volunteers
2:00pm to 4:00pm 4x volunteers
It’s likely we will have a committee member on each session so we really only need 18 players, parents or supporters to volunteer a few hours for the club.
Your club appreciates that sometimes volunteers are just waiting to be tapped on the shoulder and asked to help, unfortunately we don’t know who are. We need you to step up and tell us that you are free and available to assist. The bigger our volunteer base the healthier and stronger the club will be. We are eager to add some strength and diversity to our current group of regular volunteers.

12. AFLX Tournament - Saturday 22 February 2020
The Perth Football League is hosting an AFLX Tournament in Bayswater on Saturday 22 February 2020 at Pat O’Hara Reserve in Morley. As we have a new women’s team joining the competition this year we are required to but a women’s team in the competition. Teams will play 3 round-robin matches plus a final over the space of approximately 3 hours. Willetton will be nominating a men's team and a women's team. We require a minimum of 7 players for each team and can have 7 players on the bench.
All players participating in the tournament must be registered on Sports TG with the Perth Football League club they are playing for in 2020. A field umpire will be supplied for all matches. Clubs are required to supply a goal umpire and water carriers are not permitted on the field.
a) The match is played on a soccer/rugby-sized rectangular field.
b) Teams of seven (plus seven on the bench with unlimited rotations).
c) Fast, free-flowing footy.
d) One umpire, no centre bounces, kick-ins from behind the goal line after all scores.
e) Last touch out-of-bounds free kick.
f) Two 10-minute halves with a two-minute break at half-time.
g) 10 points for goals outside 40m.
h) At least two players from each team must start each half inside each 40m area.
i) No marks paid on backwards kicks.
13. Rookies Day - 7 March 2020
Rookies day is fast approaching if you are new to the club get ready for one hell of day getting to know everyone else at the club. The senior men’s teams will be hosting the colt’s and women’s team for Rookies Day on Saturday 7 March 2020. Your Vice President has offered to host everyone at his house for the day. The day will be designed so that all the colt’s players, women’s players and players new to the club can get to know the current playing group. There will be plenty of food, drinks, games, music and good times to be had by all.
This event will be free for colt’s and women’s players and a small fee will be charged for the league, reserves and thirds to host the colts and women. This event is one week before the scratch matches start and more details will be made available through a Facebook Event.
14. Scratch Matches – Saturday 14 and 21 March 2020
The club's Senior Coach Troy Douglas has organised two scratches matches for the club. The first scratch match will be a clash of the Blues against Mundijong Central’s Football Club. It is scheduled for Saturday 14 March 2020 at their home ground. They will be hosting us for drinks after the matches so we will organise a bus to get down there. Mundijong are organising the umpires so it will likely just be a small fee to cover the cost of trainers and the bus. Timings for the day will be released closer to the scratch match.
The second scratch match will be against the Ballajura Royal’s Football Club in Ballajura. It’s scheduled for Saturday 21 March 2020. The last time we faced the Royal’s we had two wins and two losses with the Reserves and Colts winning and the League and Thirds going down. This promises to be a great test of two very evenly matched clubs and should give us a great insight into where we are at prior to round 1.
15. 2020 Season Launch Jumper presentation - Thursday 2 April 2020
With the season fast approaching your club has been planning the Season Launch Jumper Presentation event. All player’s, supporters, friends and family are invited to what is going to be a great event to launch the season with a bang. Doors will open from 7:00pm with the Presentations to start at 8:00pm. Watch this space for further details on what is sure to be a great night.
16. Approved Managers and RSA’s Volunteers Needed
The club bar operates during the season every Thursday from 7:00pm and every Saturday from 6:00pm. The beer tent operates every Saturday during home games from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. To operate the bar and beer tent the club requires at least one Approved Manager and one Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) qualified person for each shift. The club bar is one of our key sources of income which makes the club
We are trying to reduce the reliance on the same people working the bar every week so we are seeking as many Approved Manager’s and RSA staff as possible to be put into a roster. We would like at least 10 Approved Managers and 20 RSA staff. This would mean bar staff would only need to do 2 to 3 shifts for the whole season and Approved Managers would only have to do 4 to 5 shifts for the whole season.
We have a great volunteer base of RSA staff at the club however we can always use more and we need more Approved Managers.
We also need as many parent’s or supporters to volunteer for the beer tent as typically players are unable to work the beer tent as they are busy playing. We also don’t want to rely on the same people missing out on watching their kids play every week because they are stuck working the beer tent every week.
RSA qualifications can be as cheap as $20 to get and can be completed online.
Anyone with an RSA can apply for a Club Restricted Approved Manager License and once they complete the application they are authorised to work as an Approved Manager at the club until the application has been assessed.

17. 2 More Umpires Needed
Your club has been hard at work securing umpires and trainers for the 2020 season. At this stage we just need two more regular field umpires. We would also like to have a couple of qualified people that could be called upon as backups when we need a trainer or umpire.
Field umpires require a Level 1 AFL Umpiring Accreditation and trainers require a Level 1 Accredited Sports Trainer.
Field umpires can earn over $100 a game and trainers can earn $75 a game.
