Well we are getting closer to running out the Blues teams for 2020 and how good will it be to hear the Willetton Football Club Theme Song over the PA system when our teams finally do run onto the ground in the 1st Home Game for 2020.
Free Flu Shot
On Thursday the 25th of May 2020 the club will be providing free flu vaccinations for any players, members, supporters, family, friends and volunteers. There will be two formats for the Flu shots. The players ones will be done inside the gate, immediately prior to training. Anyone else who would like the vaccination will be able to drive through the car park where there will be a drive through clinic to receive the vaccination. Entry will be through the Basketball Stadium immediately past the tennis courts and then down between the bowling and tennis clubs and the exit will be through the parking closest to the sports cub. This should avoid congestion in the car park.
The flu vaccination is completely free in the interests of the health of the Willetton Football Club, our members & the community in general. The vaccination is not compulsory but available for any person who wishes to receive it.
Back Training & Ready to Go
All our squads have returned to training as od last week, be it subject to some restrictions in terms of numbers that can be in each group, what equipment we are allowed to use and no access to change rooms, but all in all it’s a very pleasing and a welcome step in the right direction. While we do have to manage the numbers pretty tightly it was great to see a full complement of players for each team on their training nights. To assist the Club and your coach’s to manage this, if you haven’t turned out for training with your squad yet please contact your coach to let them know you’re going to be joining in so they can plan their training in advance for however many groups they need. There is enough space at Burrendah for us to run the entire clubs lists even with the restrictions in place so don’t be put off that you might not get included, everyone who turns up gets to participate it would just be handy to know approximate numbers in advance. At this point as well, if you’re not registered (we not asking for fees just that you are registered) we can't accommodate you in the training groups so if this is you get onto the website and get yourself registered.
Willetton Football Club Miles Ahead
I was very surprised to learn this week that apart from one other local club Willetton was the only club in the district that was prepared and back on the track at the 1st available opportunity. Hats off to all the club, from the committee and volunteers through to the playing group. Everything the committee and coaches have been doing behind the scenes since the Mundijong scratch match has been ensuring the club is in a constant state of preparedness for when the time arose.
Momentum is everything in footy and that’s what the Willetton Football Club has been trying to maintain over the last 8 weeks. If you were around the club before the Covid19 lockdown you would know we had momentum at Willetton, the atmosphere was thick with excitement and while we are now heading into a revised, shortened 2020 season there is sense again that it will be a great albeit shortened season. This season is a great opportunity for the club to build on that very positive culture and set up for a bright future. A quick search of other local clubs will show some have no intention to return to training any time soon. We always wanted to get back to training for the positive physical and mental health benefits and to maintain and build on our strong social culture.
While we don’t have a definitive date for the season to recommence in terms of running teams out on the ground it's looking likely to be in mid July, which could be either the 10th, 17th or 24th of July. At this point we still cannot engage in any sort of contact at training but we believe this restriction will be lifted in about 3 weeks. As we get more definitive information on this through from the various authorities and agencies we will update our players, members and all interested parties accordingly. At this point we have the opportunity to get some run back in our legs, work on our skills and fitness and get back around with our teammates to catch up. In three week time we will hopefully be able to recommence contact training with tackling, bumping, contests etc and run some game simulations as well perhaps. Ultimately it will be head coach Troy Douglas who decides what when where & how in regards to training, I’m just getting a little bit excited at the prospect
At this point, apologies to all supporters, past players, and anyone else who is thinking about coming down to check out training, under the current restrictions we simply cannot accommodate you in any other capacity than sitting in your car in the car park. For every non player that is on or around the place on the field we lose one player from the allowable training number. That maximum group of 20 includes the coach and any other support personnel. Hopefully this restriction will get removed sometime soon.
Website Covid 19 Information Centre
Finally, apart from Facebook and other social media platforms the club uses for issuing timely updates we have expanded our website to include information specific to Football & Covid 19. You will find it under the News heading. In here we have filed for your reference various guidelines, bulletins and regulations specific to the return of footy, issued through our various governing bodies. There is every thing here from how to sanitise your hands, the 10 point check list the club must adopt for training sessions, our Covid19 Safety Plan and various information bulletins. Can I ask any players who haven’t yet attended training to make themselves aware of the requirements through this information but also, bring you own water bottle and ensure its clearly labelled with your details as we cannot supply communal water bottles at this time.
Have a great day and hope to see you soon.
