To all our valued players, coaches, umpires, members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters,
The Perth Football League advised yesterday that in an effort to reduce the spread of Corona Virus (Covid-19) throughout our community they were postponing the commencement of the 2020 season until Saturday the 13th of June 2020. This was the scheduled midway point of the season.
The League has commenced re-fixturing and re-grading current team nominations for a nine round season. The League will endeavour to release new fixtures within two weeks.
Due to the nature of shared public facilities across community football even though most club activities are generally less than 500 people, the League has suspended training and other club-activities until the 31st of May 2020.
These dates are subject to further advice from the AFL and WA Football Commission, and the containment of Covid-19 within the community.
The decision has been made together with the AFL and state football bodies around Australia as part of a national approach to protect the well-being of all players, coaches, umpires, officials, staff and volunteers. The decision is one that the Willetton Football Club is compelled to comply with.
The environment we find ourselves in makes decision making and planning difficult but we assure you the Willetton Football Club will remain open on an administrative level and will provide updates as soon as they become available through our website, social media and email.
The club will to work to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 virus on our players, coaches, umpires, members, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and the community at large in full support of the recommendations from the government and our association bodies.
Unfortunately our Jumper Presentation and Social Membership Launch event scheduled for Thursday the 2nd of April 2020 has to be postponed. All other planned events will also be postponed with the view to revisit and reschedule them closer to 31st of May 2020.
The Committee behind the Willetton Football Club, are deeply disappointed that the 2020 season is to be affected so dramatically and acknowledge that our players, coaches, members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters will be equally as disappointed.
Where possible, we encourage you to support our amazing sponsors and keep your eyes and ears open to updates from the club. The committee will continue working hard to navigate this period of uncertainty for the club.
We would personally like to thank all the players, coaches, members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters, who have put so much into the 2020 season already. We are looking to be a very formidable club across all the grades we intend to field.
Where ever possible we encourage each and every player to maintain their conditioning and preparedness for the delayed start to the competition and maintain their social relationships with players within their teams.
At this stage the advice from the Perth Football League is that we will be able to open our club bar on Saturday’s to show AFL games on the big screen providing we are following the advice of the Federal Government in regards to the number of people gathering in a single place. If the club bar is to open we will notify you via social media.
At this stage we look forward to recommencing training for the women and colt’s at 6:00pm on Monday the 1st of June 2020 and for the league, reserves and thirds at 6:00pm on Tuesday the 2nd of June 2020. We also look forward to commencing round 1 on Saturday the 13th of June 2020.
For the information of players that have already paid their fees the club would like to advise you that player fees are closely tied to the cost of our Perth Football League Affiliation Fees. At this time our first payment of affiliation fees for the year has been put on hold however we have not been advised on if and how much of an adjustment there may be to our affiliation fees. Once we have more information on how our affiliation fees have been affected the committee will be able to make a determination on how to proceed with player fees.
For the information of people who have bought the training singlet pack, training singlet, training t-shirt, club polo shirt and club shorts once the club receives the stock from the supplier you will be notified via email of a time it will be made available for pick up from the club change rooms. If you haven’t yet bought a training singlet pack, training singlet, training t-shirt, club polo shirt and club shorts they are all available for purchase on the club website.
For the information of people who bought social memberships you will still receive your cap, stubby holder and membership card however this will likely be delayed until the new date for the Jumper Presentation likely to be Thursday the 11th of June 2020 if the season proceeds on Saturday the 13th of June 2020.
We will continue to update you on any information we receive as soon as we can. On behalf of the Willetton Football Club thank you for a great pre-season and ask that you please take care of yourselves and those around you!
